The Modular Building Institute Offers a Snapshot of Prefabrication

“The reduced construction schedule advantage (of prefabrication) is appealing to any owner or developer interested in maximizing return on investment. In some cases, such as school campuses or healthcare facilities, the reduced site disturbance, coupled with the quick turnaround, are critical to the project’s success.” – from the Permanent Modular Construction 2011 Annual Report, Modular Building Institute.

The Modular Building Institute recently released their annual overview of the state of modular and prefabricated construction in the U.S. and around the world. It’s full of some great information about the benefits of modular construction for projects ranging from hospitals to college residence halls.

They point out the top three benefits of permanent modular construction:

1)      Streamlined construction processes

2)      Resource efficiency

3)      Reduced environmental impact

We recognize that some who might read the annual report would see modular as an all or nothing proposition. Many of the projects highlighted in the report utilized entire rooms and buildings constructed in a manufacturing environment to be assembled onsite. These are great projects, but don’t be overwhelmed.

PIVOTek has been working to make the benefits of prefabrication more accessible. By using prefabrication techniques for a handful of elements in your building, your project can experience the benefits without undertaking a completely modular building.

We’ve chosen to focus on elements with a high concentration of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, etc. Our company’s founders have more than 150 years of expertise in this area in onsite and offsite construction. We pair that with a lean manufacturing environment to deliver integrated, complete, engineered-to-order units – ready to be hooked up and with your custom finishes.

Rethink what it means to go prefab. Yes, it can be entire modular buildings. But it can also be the integration of self-contained units that allow you to shave months off your project timeline.

“PMC modules can be integrated into site built projects or stand alone as a turn-key solution and can be delivered with MEP, fixtures and interior finishes in less time, with less waste and higher quality control compared to projects utilizing only traditional site construction.”
